Bateshwar Mela

Bateshwar Mela, the annual rural-religious fair, which take place in a ancient village bateshwar outside the Taj City. Located at a distance of 70 km. from Agra on the banks of river Yamuna, Bateshwar is an significant religious and cultural centre.The place is named after the presiding divinity of the region, Bateshwar Mahadeo and has 108 temples, devoted to the gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon. The fair begins on November 6, 2012 and end on December 3, 2012. The first half of the fair is dedicated to animals and the second half is for the village fair.

Bateshwar Fair is one of the largest fairs in Northern India, the fair provides a colorful, vibrant and entirely authentic glimpse of rural Indian life. It stands similar in style and magnitude to the Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan. .

Bateshwar Mela is the cattle animal fair, which witnesses buying and selling of animals. Besides animals, tradesmen sell various items like traditional cooking utensils, spices, locally made furniture, handicrafts and cosmetics.

The fair holds a lot of importance for the Hindus. Devotees congregate here in large numbers to worship Lord Shiva and take holy dips in river Yamuna.
